Hi

It has recently been suggested to me by a friend that I may have nominal aphasia due to my inability to recall words for objects or people, that I can clearly see in my mind or know that I know, or for nouns at times.

As far as I am aware I have never suffered a traumatic head injury or any sort of neurological diesease or incident. I have, however, been diagnosed as being depressed and am currently seeing a psychologist for it.

My question is, is it possible for nominal aphasia to be caused by depression or should I be asking for further investigations?

Thanks

Andy

Dear Andy,

Problems with word finding can occur from a variety of causes and various locations in the brain. If you are experiencing increasing difficulty with finding words, especially compared to your prior ability, you should talk to your physician about the possibility of being referred for a neurological evaluation.

Best wishes,
